LabelThis bassinet is a rare, well-preserved example of a once relatively common type of knightly helmet. The holes along its lower edge are for securing a lining (now lost) on the interior, and a camail (neck defense of mail) on the exterior, which extended around the neck onto the shoulders.* Works in the collection are moved off view for many different reasons. Although gallery locations on the website are updated regularly, there is no guarantee that this object will be on display on the day of your visit. |
